JUNIOR
HURLING:
Our
Junior Hurlers exited the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition
last Saturday night with a defeat to Butlerstown. Earlier in the week,
the lads were well defeated by a strong Dunhill side last Monday night, and
going into the final game, a win would have secured a knockout spot.
The lads
started well in the game, and despite conceding an early goal, points from Greg
Murphy, Ciaran Doyle and Tony Heffernan had Ferrybank leading by a point. But
the game changed just before half-time, when the team were reduced to fourteen
players, and Butlerstown scored 2-01 in quick succession to have them leading
by 6 points at the break.
Another
Butlerstown goal early in the second-half left Ferrybank with a mountain to
climb, however goals from Ciaran Doyle and Alex Power gave them hope, and
despite conceding another goal Ferrybank rallied with goals from Damien Walsh,
with Alex and Ciaran grabbing a second each but in the end the team fell short on
a scoreline of 5-12 to 5-08.
Thanks to
Byrner and Pairaic Buddy for helping with the team during the year.

JUNIOR CAMOGIE:
Our
Junior Camogie side were narrowly defeated by hot favourites De La Salle in the
Premium Butcher Championship last Thursday night in Ferrybank on a scoreline of
2-09 to 2-06.
De La
Salle started the better in the opening half and led by 1-08 to 1-02 with
Claire Smith-Baldwin scoring Ferrybank’s opening goal. In the second-half,
Ferrybank came right back into it, and a Orla O' Neill goal reduced the gap,
and tried as they did, the DLS defence held firm in the end to hold out for the
win. The girls can take great heart from this display, and they now look forward
to their next game which is away to Portlaw next Thursday night at 7pm.
