PEADER’S SUMMER CAMP:
The 24th running of the Kel-Tech sponsored
Peader’s Summer camp took place last week. Up to 300 children took part in this
popular and well run event. It was a pity that the rain spoilt the last day,
but overall it was another fantastic success. A huge thanks to Inter County
stars Noel Connors, Ger Alyward and Water Walsh who popped in and gave
the kids some great advice and tips on the game. Once again, a huge thanks to
all the people who contributed to the event in anyway, and to the Ahearne
family who keep it going every year. Roll on 2016.
UNDER 10 HURLING:
Ferrybank U10 hurlers played in a blitz on Saturday
18th July in Carriganore. Considering we had only three U10 players
and the remainder were U9s, the lads did extremely well.
Ferrybank, with the wind at our backs, soared ahead
in the first match against St. Patrick’s.
The second-half saw St. Patrick’s come back into it
but the damage was done. The second match against Na Gael, played out in a
similar vein, and Ferrybank emerged victors again.
The final match against our city rivals, Mount
Sion, proved a much tougher affair; the lads, tired from the previous games,
visibly slowed down and allowed the bigger and stronger opponents to take the
lead.
Some fine hurling on display and well done to all
the lads.
Team: Adam Aspel, Paddy Mackey, Conor Daly, Kyle Daly,
Izzaak Richards, Shane Purcell, Caolán MacCathmaoil, Jay Bagge, Joe Carter.
MINOR HURLING:
Our Minor Hurlers are back in action this coming
Wednesday night July 29th with a home game against Erin’s Own at
7:30pm. A must win game for the team, in order to remain in the competition,
and your support will be welcomed.
COUNTY DUTY:
Congratulations to the Heffernan sisters, Grainne
and Iona, who were part of the Waterford U16 and Intermediate Camogie teams
respectively who reached the semi-finals of the All Ireland Camogie. Grainne
was part of the Waterford Under 16B side that defeated Dublin in Walsh Park
last Saturday, while Iona was also on the Intermediate Camogie team that
defeated near neighbours Kilkenny also in Walsh Park.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
The Junior Footballers maintained their unbeaten
record in the John J Murphy sponsored competition last Friday night with a 3-07
to 0-09 win over Roanmore in Cleaboy. It wasn’t a case of the 'blanket defence'
in operation in the opening half, as they were only three scores registered,
with Ferrybank holding a 0-02 to 0-01 lead with points from Keith Power and MJ
Sutton. Ferrybank had plenty of goal chances, but they went a begging.
Roanmore started the second-half on top, and the
lads were under the cosh for the opening ten minutes, as the home side put over
three points to put them ahead. Ferrybank weathered the storm and hit a purple
patch with MJ Sutton and Keith Power pointing, and then goals from John Ahern
and Jeff Lawless, put the lads in charge. Further points from Oisín and Greg,
and Jeff Lawless scored a third goal to seal a good win. Solid display from
Damien Ahern in goal who kept a clean sheet, Graham Coady, Pat O' Neill. The
lads travel to play St. Pauls next Friday July 31st at 7:30pm.
TEAM: Damien Ahern, Nicky Ryan, Aidan Sinnott, Paul
Carew, Seamus Burtchaell, Pat O' Neill, Graham Coady, Luke Flynn, Oisín
MacCathmhaoil (0-01), Graham Penkert, Greg Murphy(0-2), Keith Power (0-2), John
Ahern (1-0), MJ Sutton (0-2), Tiernan Morrissey, Jeff Lawless(2-0), Jason
Hennessey, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Thomas Lane.
DÉISE DRAW:
Best of luck to those who have purchased tickets
for the July Déise draw which takes place this coming Friday night in
Kilgobnet. Many thanks to all who have supported this draw, and let’s hope we
can have a couple of winners on the night. Congratulations to Davy Butler who
was the confined winner for June.
