GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Ferrybanks Intermediate Hurlers were defeated by Ballygunner in the semi finals of the Intermediate Championship on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-14 at Walsh Park. Following an even opening 10 minutes, with the sides level at two points each, Ballygunner hit 1-3 without reply in a six minute spell, and from their on always held the upper hand. Mark O' Brien replied with two points, but Ballygunner always kept the scoreboard ticking over and despite good scores from Phil Blake, Eoin O' Neill, MJ Sutton, Ballygunner held a 1-09 to 0-08 lead at the break. Ferrybank made a bad start to the second half, when some poor defending left in Ballygunner for a soft goal and they extended the gap to eight points. Despite points from Tommy Carew, MJ Sutton, Mark O' Brien, Ferrybank got back to four points during the second half, but the goal they badly needed to ignite them didnt come as the Ballygunner defence held firm and in the end ran out worthy winners on the day. This was tough on the lads, but they are a young team, and hopefully they will bounce back even stronger for next season. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the day.
