MINOR HURLING

Ferrybanks Minor Hurlers recorded a thrilling win over a gallant Sacred Heart team in round 3 of the Minor Hurling Championship in Ferrybank last night on a scoreline of 4-9 to 1-14. Trailling by six points midway through the second half, things didnt look good, but a determined final quarter by the players yielded the win. MJ Sutton was in fine scoring form with 3-8 of the teams total. MJ put over the opening two points for Ferrybank, and minutes later evaded a couple of Sacred Heart players before batting the ball to the net. Ferrybank had their second goal when Darryl Griffin went on a fine run, passed it over to MJ, and struck a bullet of a shot to the net. Two Further points from MJ had Ferrybank in control of the game, but Sacred Heart began to get into the game and four unanswered points closed the gap to two points with half time approaching. On the stroke of half time, Sacred Heart struck for a goal to have them 1-8 to 2-4 ahead at the break. Sacred Heart got on top of the second half, and put over five points on the trot to put them in control of the game. MJ Sutton put over two points to reduce the gap to four, and Robbie Carew put over another point, as Ferrybank began to get back into the game. Sacred Heart got another point to extend it to four points, but another MJ point reduced it to three entering the closing minutes. Ferrybank levelled the game up with a fine goal from Robbie Carew, and MJ put Ferrybank into the lead with a fine point. With time almost up, Davy Atkins intercepted a Sacred Heart attack played it out to MJ who went on a mazy run and with the goal opening up for him, he blasted the ball to the net for Ferrybanks fourth. Ferrybank survived a late skirmish to hold out for a good win, and register their first win in the Championship. Next up for the Minors is Wednesday August 20th home to Cappoquin at 7:15pm.
