GAA NOTES

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers qualified for the Eastern Football final with a great win over the Holders Mt Sion in Kilmacthomas last Friday night on a scoreline 1-10 to 1-09. Following a 35 minute delay awaiting a referee,  Ferrybank refused to panic, despite been four  points down straight away, and once Kevin Hurley got the first point on the board, the team grew in confidence, tightened up at the back, and the scores began to come. John Treacy popped over another point to reduce the gap to two points, and moments later 'Taz' got the goal, when he drilled the ball high into the net from close range. Ferrybank began to get on top and missed some good scores to extend the lead, but further points from Sam Lawless and Kevin Hurley ensured Ferrybank led 1-04 to 0-5 at the break. Two good points from Greg Murphy stretched the lead, and even though Mt Sion came back with points of their own, Ferrybank kept the scoreboard ticking over with Luke Flynn and a wonder score from Seamus Burchill. John Byrne had a great chance for a goal, but kicked over the bar. Mt Sion started to get on top in the closing stages, but the defence held firm, and Kevin Hurley pointed to leave Ferrybank five points clear. Another pointed free from Mt Sion reduced the gap to four, and deep into injury time Mt Sion got a goal to leave one between them. From the resulting kickout the referee blew the whistle, and Ferrybank go on to play either St Pauls or Kilmacthomas in the final which is scheduled to take place on Saturday October 13th.
