GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate hurlers bowed out of this years championship as Clonea advanced to the semi final stages with a 0-14 to 0-12 win over a gallant Ferrybank team in Kill last night. Ferrybank gave it their all on the night, and it was the last five minutes Clonea got the vital scores to win. An early score from Tommy Carew put Ferrybank into an early lead, but the next 15 minutes Clonea racked up seven points on the trot to put them six points clear. Ferrybank knuckled down after that blitz and began to dominate the remainder of the first half with scores from Mark Russell, Eoin O' Neill, Sam Lawless, Gary Coady  to bring the sides level at 7 points each. Ferrybank can count themselves unlucky not to be leading at half time, as they missed some good scores in that half. Points were traded early on in the second half to leave the game at -9 points each, and further points from Mark Russell(2) gave Ferrybank a 2 points lead. Scores were hard to come by in the second half, as both defences gave very little away, despite both teams been reduced to 14 players. However in the final five minutes, Clonea hit over five points to give them the lead, and despite an Eoin O' Neill point, Clonea held on for the win as the whistle sounded. Ferrybank gave it their all on the night and couldnt be faulted for the effort and committment on the field, and no doubt they will come back next year stronger, as this is a very young team. A huge thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night.
