GAA NOTES
INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers drew there latest championship match against St Saviours in a rain lashed Walsh Park last night on a scoreline of 0-8 pts to 1-5. With both sides unbeaten going into last nights game, a good game of Hurling was on the cards. However persistant rain all day, deprived a good game of hurling as both sides found it hard to keep there balance and first touches. St Saviours opened the scoring after 4 minutes with a point, but a minute later Sam Lawless levelled the game with a fine score. Both sides were then guilty of some wides, but with the heavy rain making conditions tough, and hurleys slipping from players hands it didnt help matters. Ferrybank regained the lead on 17 minutes with a fine score from Mark Russell, and the same player extended the lead with another score from from play, St Saviours reduced the gap with a point, but with half time looming, Ferrybank hit over 4 unanswered points in a matter of minutes through Mark Russell(2), Cormac Heffernan, Eoin O' Neill to leave Ferrybank leading by -7pts to -2pts. With no let up in the rain, and visibility beginning to reduce, the 2nd half was pretty much the same as the first half, it was 10 minutes of the second half when the first score arrived through a point from St Saviours. However straight away, a good build up from Ferrybank saw Mark O' Brien hit a fine score from his left side and keep the 5 point lead in tact, that was Ferrybanks last score of the game. St Saviours reduced the gap with a point with 12 minutes to go, and almost scored a goal, only for an excellent save by Sean Flynn. With St Saviours beginning to get on top in the middle of the field, the only goal arrived with 8 minutes to go when a long free deceived everyone and ended up in the Ferrybank net to reduce the gap to a point. Ferrybank were battling hard as Saviours came at them, and with 3 minutes to go Saviours levelled the game up with another point. Both sides had chances to nick a win but the referee whistle went to end the game. Considering Ferrybank were missing 6 regulars, this was a battling performance from the players, in conditions that didnt suit them, and the point they got gaurantees them a place in the quater finals. The team have a one game left to play which is against Portlaw which is scheduled to take place next month, and hopefully the selectors will have a full panel to pick from. Thanks to all who came along on a miserable night to support the lads.
