GAA NOTES

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our Junior Footballers recorded their opening win in this years Championship with a 4-7 to 3-5 win over Eirns Own last nigh in Ferrybank. Short a lot of players going into the game, it was Eirns Own who made the better start scoring 2 goals in the opening minutes to race ito a 2-1 to -1ptlead with Sam Lawless registering the home side opening score. Ferrybank had 2 goals scoring chances to get back on level terms but didnt take them, however Brian Bartley did find the net from close range to give the homeside some hope. DJ Magee then scored a good point to reduce the gap, but Eirns Own replied with a pointof their own. Just before the half time whistle, Ferrybank got back on level terms with a DJ Magee goal. Ferrybank began to get on top, but didnt take the scores they needed. it was all square at half time at 2-2 each. Cormac O' Driscoll pointed soon after the break, to put Ferrybank ahead, but Eirns Own soon levelled it up with a point.
Ferrybank began to dominate the game now, and a Luke Flynn point, followed by a fine Keith Power solo goal extended the lead, and this gave Ferrybank the drive on. Another Sam Lawless point gave the team a five point lead, but Eirns Own were given a lifeline with a goal. Ferrybank held their nerve entering the closing minutes with points from Sam and Greg Murphy, before Brian Bartley scored his second and Ferrybank's fourth following good build up play from the team. This was a deserved win for the team, despite getting of to a slow start, and hopefully they can build on his victory, when they play St Pauls in their next game on Friday May 18th in Ferrybank at 7pm.
