INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediates made the trip to Knockanore this morning to play Shamrocks in a challenge game. Going into the game the team was short of a few players, but the lads on the field put in a good effort resulting in a 2-11 to -11pts win. Mark O' Brien opened the scoring after five minutes with a well taken score, and two minutes later Sam Lawless pointed from a tight angle. James Murphy put over point number three for the team after 10 minutes. Two frees from the Shamrocks reduced the gap to one midway through the first half. Phil Blake put point number four on the board. Shamrocks drew level with two quick points, with Eoin O' Neill pointing from a free to put Ferrybank back into the lead. Just before half time, Ferrybank got their opening goal, when Darren Hickey picked up a loose ball and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. Another Sam Lawless point extended the lead, but Shamrocks got the last score of the half with a pointed free to leave it 1-6 to -6pts in Ferrybanks favour. Sam got his third point of the game early in the second half, and then it was Mark O' Brien's turn with four excelllent scores in the second half. Ferrybank had a lot of possession in the second half but didnt take their scores, allowing Shamrocks to score three unanswered scores to reduce the gap to a goal. In the final few minutes a long ball into the Shamrocks goal was knocked into the net by Sam, and that finished the scoring. This was a good performance from the team, and the selectors would have been pleased with their attitude and their workrate. We would like to thank the Shamrocks for their kind hospitality after the game, providing the team with Tea & Sandwiches.
