MINOR FOOTBALL: Our Minor Footballers began the 2012 Football championship with a one point win over Stradbally in Ferrybank this morning on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-10. Stradbally played with the breeze in the first half and opened up with four points. Ferrybank had a couple of scoring chances with they didnt take. However after 18 minutes Ferrybank scores a goal through Mark O' Brien, when a "45" from Keith power wasnt cleared and Mark dispatched the ball into the net. However Stradbally with the breeze put over three unanswered points to increase their lead, and just before half time, they scored a goal to stretch the lead to 1-6 to 1-0 at half time. Following a "pep talk" from the selectors, Ferrybank came out all guns blazing, and points from Keith Power(2), Liam Og Carey, MJ Sutton(2), John Ahern, Robbie Carew put them a point up. However two quick points from Stradbally put them a point ahead. But Ferrybank refused to give up and a Keith Power goal put them back into the lead, and Keith got another point put them 3pts up entering the final few minutes. Some solid defending from the lads kept the hosts at bay and two more points from Stradbally reduced the gap to the miminum with a minute to go. One last Stradbally attack was superbly defended by the team as they refused to conceed a free, and as the ball was cleared the whistle went. This was a good team performance with everyone contributing to the team win. Next game in the Minor Football is Sunday 18th march at 11:30am away to St Marys(Kill).
