GAA NOTES

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers made their exit from this years championship where they were defeated by Roanmore in Gracedieu on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-4. This was a disapointing performance from the team, and espically not to make it to the semi finals. Missing a number of players from the last match, this was going to be a difficult game and so it did. Despite getting of to a good start with a goal from Cormac O' Driscoll and a Jason Hennessey point, Ferrybank soon lost control of the game despite playing with the wind in the first half, as Roanmore began to dominate and scored 1-4 without reply. There goal coming from poor Ferrybank defending. Ferrybank began to claw their way back into it and further points from John Treacy and Jason Hennessey (2) drew the game level. Playing against the breeze in the second half, Roanmore scored an early goal, when a high ball into the Ferrybank goal somehow ended up in the Ferrybank net. Another Roanmore point extended their lead to 4 points. Ferrybank began to get a grip of things and were very unlucky not to score a goal which they badly needed when Sam Lawless had 2 shots of the upwright and post, and Mark Russell hit the post with the goal at his mercy. A third goal from Roanmore sealed Ferrybanks fate late on, as the full time whistle blew.
