GAA NOTES

MINOR FOOTBALL: Our Minor Footballers bowed out of this years Minor Football replay semi- final against An Gaeltacht on Saturday evening in Leamybrien on a scoreline 0f 1-10 to -11pts. This was a game that could have went either way, and in the luck went to the men from the west. It was An Gaeltacht who opened the scoring but Greg Murphy levelled up the game, with a fine point from play. Two frees from Luke Flynn put us into the lead by two, before An Gaeltacht reduced the gap to one, midway through the first half. Points from Greg, Luke, and Sam towards the end of the half gave us a three point lead at half time on a scoreline of -7pts to -4pts. The Turning point of the game, was done in the opening five minutes of the second half in which the men from the west scored 1-2 without reply, to give them a two point lead which they held throughout the half. A fine Mark Russell score reduced the gap to one, but the Gaeltacht got the next point to give them that cushion lead. Two fine scores from Kevin Hurley got the village boys back to the minimum, but An Gaeltacht always got the next score, Oisin Mc Caothmaoil got a super score from the left boot, but tried as they hard, the ball just wouldnt break for them in around the box. In the end time ran out for the lads, and they can hold their heads high as they gave it their all on the day. We wish An Gaeltacht the best for the final.
