INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers played Mt Sion last Tuesday night in Walsh park in this years Eastern Championship and were defeated on a scoreline line of 3-12 to -13pts. We made a bright start to the game and lead by -5pts to -2 at the midway stage of the first half, thanks to points from Cormac O' Driscoll, Sam Lawless, and Cormac Heffernan. The team had plenty of possession and could have had a goal or two on the board. Some good points followed and with 5 minutes before the half time whistle Ferrybank lead by 8pts to-5pts, but diaster struck for Ferrybank, as Mt Sion hit a purple patch yielding 2-3 without reply to leave the half time score 2-8 to -9pts. A quick score from Cormac O' Driscoll reduced the gap to four points, but tried as we could we couldnt get a stranglehold on the game as Mt Sion kept the gap to 5-6 points, and as the game wore on, some good goal chances went a begging for us, and a third Mt Sion goal late on sealed our fate. Overall it was a disappointing performance from the team and despite having made a decent start to the game, we were unable to keep it going throughout the game. We play Portlaw in our final game on Friday 23rd July in Walsh park at 6:30pm. This game will decide on who makes it through to the quaterfinals in this years championship. Many thanks to all who came and supported the team. TEAM: Sean Flynn, Damien Ahearne, Gary Coady, Conor Hogan, Paul Martin, Damien Walsh, Cormac O' Meara, Damien Heffernan, Cormac O' Driscoll, Sam Lawless, John Byrne, Eoin O' Neill, Cormac Heffernan, Brendan O' Meara, James Murphy. SUBS Shane Flynn for Brendan O' Meara, Shane Sullivan for Damien Heffernan, Seamus Burchill for James Murphy.
MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers opened there campagin in Poleberry on Wednesday night against Eirns Own and were defeated on a scoreline of 2-13 to -10pts. Missing five key players didnt help our cause for the game, but we were in this game for long periods, when we conceeded 2 soft goals, which gave Eirns Own some breathing space. Try as we might we couldnt breach the Eirns Own defence for a goal which would have given us hope. Despite this defeat there is still a long way to go in the championship. Our next game has not yet been confirmed as the Waterford Minors are scheduled to be in action on Saturday/Sunday week in the All Ireland Quater finals against Galway.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL: With the Munster Hurling final replay down for this Saturday night, our Junior Football match against Kilmacthomas will now take place on SUNDAY JULY 18TH in Ferrybank at 7:30pm. Please come along and support the lads in this top of the table clash.
