INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers travelled to Kill on Friday night to play Clonea in there second game in this years Eastern Championship and were defeated on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-8. Despite opening the scoring through Shane Sullivan with a well taken point, the team found it hard to get going as they came up against a well drilled team. Damien Walsh "65" levelled the game at 2pts each early in the game, then two quick points from Cormac O' Driscoll put us two points clear, before diaster struck when we left Clonea in for a gifted goal which put them into a one point lead. Points were quickly exchanged with Phil Blake scoring for the villagers, then Clonea knocked over five unanswered points to put them six clear approaching half time but Cormac O' Driscoll pointed and Cormac Heffernan goaled to give us hope which only left us two points down at half time. A quick Phil Blake point at the start of the second half reduced it to one, but sadly that was our last score for 20 minutes as Clonea tagged over 5 points in that period to put day light between the teams. Some bad wides in that period didnt help our cause and goalie Sean Flynn pulled of two excellent saves to keep us in the hunt. Another point from Damien Walsh reduced the gap to five points with 10 minutes to go, but three unanswered points from Clonea saw them run out eight point winners at the end. This was a disappointing team performance from the team and no doubt an improved performance will be required when we play Dunhill on Friday June 11th in Kill at 7.45pm. Thanks to those who came out and supported the team.
