U21 HURLING

Our under 21 Hurlers played Portlaw on Monday night at a gloomy Walsh park in a Preliminary round game and were defeated on a scoreline of 4-9 0-5. Despite conceeding an early goal we got of the mark with a Cormac o' Driscoll free for a point, however a second Portlaw goal gave the lads an uphill task and despite points from O' Driscoll and Shane Sullivan, left us 6pts down at the break. Hoping to make a good start to the second half were soon dashed a Portlaw tagged on a few more points, and a 3rd goal soon put paid to her hopes. But credit to the players as they kept plugging away in the gloom and with a bit of luck could have got a goal. Further scores from Cormac O' Driscoll and Sam Lawless finished our scoring for the game. Despite this defeat against a more experienced Portlaw side, this is a very young Ferrybank side who will have learnt a lot from this game, and all of them will be under age for next season, the future bodes well. We wish Portlaw well in there next game.

Congratulations to Damien Ahearne, Sam Lawless and Cormac Heffernan who represented the Waterford Minor Hurlers on Sunday in Holycross, where they played Tipperary Minors in a challenge game. All three played there part in the 3pt win and all performed with great credit. All associated with Ferrybank Gaa Club would like to congratulate them and hopefully this is the start of a fantastic hurling career.
