We played a blinder in all games with only small margins the difference during games. The heat during the day took its toll and meant constant rotation of all players with good exposure given to the youngest players taking the first step on the ladder to representing not only Ferrybank but in time future County teams. A great effort was shown in all matches and mention must be made of the spirit shown to put their shoulder to the wheel when necessary with man of the match performances by Ferrybank players in at least 4 matches. Their grandparents and parents would be proud to see such skill at an early age shown by Reece McDonald, Charlie Mcloughlin, David Nixson, Ben Fitzpatrick in different matches.
The supply of “Jaffa Cakes” helped the concentration level for the last two games which were Ferrybank’s best performances Under 8 and Under 9 with play being white hot with little give and take for long periods in the first half from strong Ferrybank pressure which led to the first, second and third goals in games.
During this period our goal keeper’s Jake Brophy/Aaronn Ahearne and Aaronn Smith made numerous saves to deny both teams facing Ferrybank. The second half in each game led to good scores and only for the high grass a higher return on the day could have been received.
The parents and grand parents, friends watching saw thrilling matches played in fine spirit. Good ball skills were on show and each week sees better co-ordination from practice and “Hurling Homework”. Special thanks to all the parents (especially the mothers and
friends ) who got the kids to the venue as we could not do this without your support. A special mention for the Ferrybank Boys 1st/2nd/Senior infant class e.t.c which comprises the majority of the team and the good discipline and teamwork shown is a credit to their parents and teachers and Mr. Ger Duggan, Principal – mentors involved in this core group of up and coming talented players. Coaches on the sideline for the day John Haley, Fintan Byrne, John Burns, John Haley, Dave Butler, Conor Ahearne,John Brophy.
