Our Squad for this Tournament was weakened by some late call off’s and prior committments but our younger player’s used this opportunity to gain some experience of competitive games under 8. Our games against Ballygunner 1 & 2 /Mount Sion 1& 2 teams and St. Saviours, Gaultier, Roanmore, Sacred Heart were played at a fast pace with a brave effort from all the team winning the majority over the two weeks. Even-do we had a month’s break since December 08, the Ferrybank U-8 team played brilliantly on the day never resting and always competing with some Football homework having been done during the two weeks which showed more on the second weekend. All participants received a medal or grip for their efforts and will have three medals and/or a grip which is a good return for their efforts. I would like to mention all the players are seven or under and will compete at this age again next year or under 8.
I would like to thank the organisers and young referees on the day. A few will carry bruises and bumps from this experience but games are better than just training for training sake. We would like to thank all the parents for their help and support in getting the kids to the venue. Star of the week for bravery goes to Reece Phelen for playing on after two clashes of heads while defending and challenging others for possession. All the parents can be proud of their childrens efforts over the four weeks with great discipline and willingness to go the extra yard.
