The players took part in a well organised Gaelic Football tournament with three games against Ardfinnann, Kilsheelin and St.Marys. This was a first in so many ways for this young side travelling by bus and playing a tournament in Gaelic Football. The three games were played in good spirit and every player played in a fifteen a side format. The teams they played were probably more advanced in their skill level but this did not stop all our players showing their skill sets when needed.

These three clubs playing Ferrybank all play regular Gaelic Football games and it counted in the accuracy of shooting.

The concentration level was intense by all our players and the play was a battle for possession with the teams playing Ferrybank having a year advantage being a U-8 tournament with all our players being 7 or under. This sort of experience is invaluable in terms of dealing with pressure and counter attacking. There were long periods in all the games when strong Ferrybank pressure led to scores from which the whole team can take a clap on the back.
It takes time to adjust to the different patterns of play and holding possession and the coaching of these youngsters came to the fore with use on both feet and good use of hand passes. The games flowed back and forth until further scores occurred which were the result of great team inter play using the ball in the Soft Pitch conditions.

The weather had a severe effect with strong winds facing these young players from the start of each half and this placed more pressure on our defence which at times must have felt like the Alamo.

When called upon During these period our two goal keepers made numerous saves to deny teams. It was the first experience of this for many players under 5/6/7. It was a great turn out for the Club with 15 players travelling proudly representing the Club colours and giving their all. I would like to thank the ArdFinnan Club/Coaches and mentors for their organisation.

It was a nice touch that all participating players received a medal and refreshments afterwards.
Special thanks to all the parents (especially the mothers and friends ) who got the kids to the venue as we could not do this without your support. – mentors involved in this core group of up and coming talented players.
