Our under 16 hurlers championship came to an end on Monday night against Abbeyside. Old failings came back to haunt the slip lads as soft goals gave Abbeyside a big lead at half time. The slip boys were playing the better hurling and dominating the game with an outstanding half being played by Cormac Hefferan, Damien Ahern and John Roche. With the quality of their hurling giving them great heart for the second half the slip lads roared into the game quickly leveling terms. Sam Lawless became the spearhead of the attach with Jamie Diggins and Darren Hickey supporting and were fed by a dominant midfield, powered on by Seamus Burchaill, a hard working half forward line lead by a work acoholic Cormac Hefferan and aided by a return to form of both Mark Russell and Greg Murphy. The half back line of Damian Ahern, Sean Relis and Eoin Buggy gave nothing away while the full back line aided by the repositing of Neill Wymans and the tight marking of Aidan Sinnott and Emmet Fell and latter David Harding become more secure as the match went on.
Abbeyside countered and the game became nip and tuck for the remaining of the game before it ended in a draw.
While this may have been a disappointing season for our lads, it has opened their eyes and shown them what they have to do to compete at this level and has finally left them in no doubt that they can !
