Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Ferrybank Intermediate hurlers were narrowly defeated by Erin’s Own in the opening game of the Gerry Kennedy crash repairs sponsored competition at Walsh Park last Saturday afternoon on a score-line of 0-09 to 0-08.
In a low scoring game, Ferrybank had enough possession to win the game and missed a couple of good goal chances, and were left to rue those chances at the final whistle. Ferrybank had the better of the opening exchanges with points from Robbie Carew, Sam Lawless and Mark O' Brien to have the leading by 0-03 to 0-01. However, slowly Erin’s Own got to the gripe of the game, and yielded four unanswered points, to have them in front. Coming up to half time, Mark O' Brien, with two points, had Ferrybank back on level terms, but two converted frees, saw Erin’s Own leading by 0-07 to 0-06 at the break.
Erin’s Own started the brighter in the second-half, and extended the lead with a point and could have increased their lead but hit a number of wides. Two more Mark O' Brien points had Ferrybank level, and it looked like the lads would kick on for victory entering the final 15 minutes.
Ferrybank had their chances for goal, with John Ahern, Eoin O' Neill and Sam Lawless going close, but Erin’s Own defence held firm and closed down the Ferrybank forwards quickly. Entering the closing minutes, a pointed free edged Erin’s Own ahead and despite having chances to level it up, Erin’s Own closed out the game and take the two points on offer.
No doubt the lads will be disappointed with the result, considering they had a lot of the play, and should have got something out of the game, but they will have to dust themselves down for their next game against Clonea in Walsh Park on Saturday May 13th. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team.
