MINOR FOOTBALL: Ferrybank Minor Footballers will play in Division 4 in this years 2012 championship. It will be 12 a side for each game. The full group are as follows. FERRYBANK, Cois Bhride, Stradbally, St Saviours, St Marys. The proposed dates are as follows.

A.G.M. Ferrybank Gaa club held its Annual General Meeting in the Parish Hall on Tuesday night. Vice Chairman Nicky Heffernan opened the meeting by welcoming all present there. A comprehensive report by Secretary Pat O' Meara followed, reviewing the Adult, Under 21, Minor,Under 16 campagins. Then Treasurer Declan O' Meara gave us his report for the year, explaining in detail where every cent went, and how the money was gained and spent. Vice Chairman Nicky Heffernan spoke by thanking all who helped out with the club in any way, and was hoping to see new faces helping with club in any shape or form.
Following this the elections of officers took place.

HURLING & FOOTBALL DRAWS:
Following an Eastern Board meeting which took place in Dunhill tonight, the following draws took place for the 2012 season.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: GROUP A: FERRYBANK, Portlaw, Mt Sion, Eirns Own, Tramore, St Saviours. The top 4 teams in each group will qualify for the Quater finals. Dates, Venues, Fixtures have yet to be confirmed.

JUNIOR HURLING UNATTACHED: FERRYBANK, Eirns Own, Portlaw, Clonea, Tramore, Butlerstown, St Mollerans. The top 4 teams will qualify for the semi-finals. Ferrybank's first game HOME to Eirns Own. Date to be confirmed.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL PROPER: FERRYBANK, Mt Sion, Eirns Own, Roanmore, St Pauls. The top team will qualify for semi final, 2nd & 3rd will play the 2nd & 3rd in the other group as quater finals. No Dates were fixed. Games will be either home or away (one round only).

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL: SEMI FINAL: FERRYBANK V Kilmacthomas. Venue St Mollerans on FRIDAY 24TH FEB AT 8PM. Please note Extra time will be played up to and including the final. The other semi final is between St Marys v Clanna Gael.

UNDER 21 HURLING: The Under 21 Hurling has yet to be finalised, and will be sorted out at next months Eastern Board meeting.

A.G.M. Dont forget the Ferrybank Hurling & Football A.G.M. will take place on Tuesday January 24th at 8pm in the Parish Hall. Everyone is most welcome to atttend, and anybody wishing to get involved with the club this year, we would be delighted in seening you there.

FERRYBANK B.N.S. MINI 7's:
Ferrybank Boys school competed in the mini 7's and did extremely well this year. In the first round of the competition, we defeated Mt Sion on a scoreline of 3-0 to-1 with scores from Adam English 2-0 and Mark Sutton 1-0,. Our 2nd game resulted in another win over St Stephens Street B.N.S. on a scoreline of 3-2 to 1-6 with scores from Adam English 1-1, Neil O' Sullivan 1-1, Jack Quinn 1-0. We maintained oue winning run by making it three wins out of three with a 1-1 to 1-0, victory over St Pauls, with Jack Quinn 1-0, and Adam English -1 getting the scores. Our final game in the group stages was against Portlaw and it ended all square on a scoreline 1-0 to -3, with Adam English(-2), Neil O' Sullivan(-1), with the scores. It was on to the Eastern Finals which was held in Gracedieu(D.L.S) last Tuesday.Led by captain Callum Russell, Ferrybank were defeated in their opening game by Holycross Tramore on a scoreline 2-4 to 1-1, with scores from Conor Quinn 1-0, Neil O' Sullivan -1. Our 2nd game against Scoil Lorcain resulted in heart break for the lads, as a last minute goal gave them victory on a scoreline of 2-1 to 1-2, with Adam English 1-0, Neil -1, and Conor Quinn -1 scoring. in our final game against Rathgormack, the lads had a resounding win on a scoreline of 3-3 to -4pts with Adam English 2-0, Oseiwe Ogunil 1-1, Neil O' Sullivan -2 getting the scores. Scoil Lorcain went on to win the competition. Well done to all who took part.

DEISE DRAW: We had two winners in the final Deise Draw 2011 which took place in Stradbally last Friday night. Congratulations to Ruth Howard and Adrian Hoban who both won £250 euro each. Many thanks to all who have purchased tickets throughout the year on behalf of Ferrybank Gaa club.

World Champion

The club would like to congratulate our local hero Craig Breen. Craig was recently crowned World Champion when he won the WRC Academy Championship. Craigs father Ray, along with his business Keltec is the major sponsor of Peadar's Summer Camp and indeed is a great supporter of Ferrybank G.A.A. Club in general. To the Breen family dad Ray, mam Jackie and daughter Kelly we wish our heartiest congratulations and wish them well into the future.
Well done once again to Craig, and of course co driver Gareth Roberts.

UNDER 7 HURLING & FOOTBALL:
Our under 7 team travelled to Ballybeg to play St Saviours in a challenge game. The Ferrybank under 7 team were piping hot today, and rattled countless scores against their opponents St Saviours. The hurling was played at a fast pace, but our lads got stuck in at every given opportunity, and were well rewarded for their efforts. The football proved a tougher gig, but ferrybank relished the challenge. The team work in both games were exemplary, and was on show for all to see. Thanks to all for the massive crucial support, and to St Saviours for the manner in which they played the games, and for the provision of the venue. Thanks again kids for a great days entertainment and providing another proud day for Ferrybank. DEISE DRAW: This Friday night Nov 25th sees the final draw in this years Deise Draw 2011 which will take place in Stradbally. Lets hope we can sign of with a couple of winners on the night. Congratulations to Paddy Ahearne of Rockenham who was the confined winner of the October draw. On behalf of Ferrybank Gaa club, i would like to thank everyone who purchased tickets throughout the year from Ferrybank. This is a vital source of income, and the money raised goes back into the club funds, and assists the club in improving the club facilities. Once again thanks again, and we will do it all again in 2012.

COUNTY DRAW: The County draw in aid of the Waterford hurling training fund will take place this Saturday Nov 26th at 1:15pm on W.L.R. "On the ball" programme. GREYHOUND NIGHT: A huge thanks to all who supported our annual night at the dogs last Saturday night in Kilcohan park. By all accounts it was a successful night for the club, and everyone their on the night had a great time. COUNTY DUTY: Congratulations and the very best of luck to John (Doxer) Burns who has been appointed manager of the Waterford Minor hurling team for 2012 campagin. An experienced coach, Doxer has coached and mentored Ferrybank teams from all ages during his coaching career, and his appointment has been well deserved. No doubt Doxer will give it his all with the minor hurling panel, and we wish him and his selectors Noel Kelly, Pat Kearney, Ray O' Brien the very best of luck.

UNDER 5 & 7 HURLING: Our under 5 & 7 Hurlers travelled to play St Saviours yesterday. UNDER 5 TEAM: Michael Mac Lawrence, Amelia Hartley, Adam Aspel, Caolan Mac Cathmhaoil, Joe Carter, Malachy Carter, Fionn McGarrity, Aaron Meaney. UNDER 7 TEAM: Samuel Lesack, Izaak Richards, Daniel Griffin, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Daniel Walsh, Odhran Power, Mark Imiren, Sean Fagan, Sean Heffernan, Shane Purcell, Jamie Sutton.
Ferrybank under 5 & 7 teams have been enjoying a fantastic spell of late, and they contuined this form. With the howling wind and pelting rain, our young lads, not only battled against the opposition, but also the elements. The under 7 was a close game of hurling, but Ferrybank played with an ever improving armoury of skill and a tenacious spirit, which the hosts couldnt break down. The Ferrybank under 5 team are some outfit, and these youngsters controlled their hurling match, and earned a well deserved draw. Once again lads, you have done yourselves and Ferrybank proud. A big thanks and a clap on the back to all our players. The support from the parents and relatives are a vital ingredient to the lads continous improvement, this is very much appreciated. Thanks to St Saviours who were excellent hosts, and to the teams for a great days entertainment. We look forward to welcoming you to Ferrybank for the return leg.

UNDER 5 & 7 HURLING: Our under 5 & 7 hurlers travelled to Kill on Saturday to play St Marys in two challenge games. Both our under 5 & 7 kids donned the Ferrybank jersey, and they dominated both their games against St Marys. Our recent spate of excellent results have had a tremendous effect on the lads, their confidence has soared and this is illustrated in their performance. The teamwork and passing in the under 7 game was second to none, and the under 5 team enjoyed a great game as well. Well done lads, keep up the hurling homework. As always thanks to the parents, grandparents, friends, relatives for their vital support. Thanks to St Marys for been excellent hosts, and to the teams for a great morning of entertainment. The under 6 panel was split into 2 teams and Ferrybank dominated both. The young fellas had a ball and put in a great display of hurling for the proud parents. The under 8 game proved a much tougher affair, but the lads put in a fantastic effort and got a well deserved draw. The lads illustrated their hurling skills, and the improvement was their for all to see. Well done to all the Ferrybank lads, you did yourselves and the club proud. Thanks to Sacred Heart for been excellent hosts, and to the teams for a great evenings entertainment. Well done lads. As always thanks to the parents for their support.

It states- Rug iomainthe an Caladh Phoirtcroabh Co Phortlairge 1915. This roughly translates as - The Ferrybank (or port or docks) hurlers took the Waterford Co. championship of 1915.The recipient of this medal was a T McSeartha(which may be Mc Sharry, Mc Sherry, Shearer or Shearan) He may have been a sub on the team of 1915. If anyone can shed any light on the enigma it would be marvellous.

This message was given to our club this evening and is about a 1915 county winners medal recently found.
As Ferrybank were county champions the medal was won by a Ferrybank player but we are looking to see if anyone out there knows the identity of the winner OR indeed is a relation of the owner of this piece of memorabilia. Please let the word spread, and let us know .

GREYHOUND NIGHT: Ferrybank Gaa Club will hold their annual night at the dogs on Saturday 5th November in Kilcohen Park. Tickets will shortly go on sale at £10 euro's each which will include admission. We would encourage all people associated with Ferrybank Gaa club to come along and support the night. UNDER 8 HURLING: The Ferrybank under 8 hurling panel in Ferrybank yesterday. This was a very tight game. Initially Tramore soared ahead, but Ferrybank clawed their way back into it by half time, and started to dominate. Tramore battled hard in the second half, and scores were rattled in by each team on a regular basis. In the end a draw was a fair result. Ferrybank put in a great effort today, and the lads are improving constantly. This was a great all round performance. Keep up the training lads.

UNDER 14 CAMOIGE: Our under 14 Camoige squad travelled to Tramore yesterday to take part in the Tramore tournament. In the opening game Ferrybank played Glen Rovers from Cork and the Cork side proved to strong for the girls. In the second game, Ferrybank defeated Tramore, playing some very good hurling at times. This was an enjoyable tournament for the team to enjoy, and no doubt will have learnt a lot from these games. Thanks to Tramore for been very good hosts on the day.

UNDER 15 HURLING: Our under 15 hurlers were defeated in the semi final of Eastern championship by Sacred Heart in Dunhill tonight on a scoreline of 5-14 to 2-5. The lads werent at their best tonight, but take nothing away from Sacred Heart as they were far sharper and took their scores where it mattered. Ferrybank got of to an excellent start after two minutes where John Ahern scored a fine goal from a super Robbie Carew pass. However the lead was short lived when hesitation in the Ferrybank defence let Sacred Heart score a soft goal. After 8 minutes Ferrybank got their second goal when Robbie Carew shot went all the way into the Sacred Heart net to restore their lead. Ferrybank had to re-jig their defence when MJ Sutton had to retire with injury, and from then on until half time, Sacred Heart took over with a scoring blitz by hitting over six unanswered points in the space of seven minutes to shoot into a three point lead, and then two quick goals to double the lead. Two points from Robbie Carew helped to stem the tide, but on the stroke of half time a fourth Sacred Heart goal to leave them in full control at 4-7 to 2-2. In the second half, Ferrybank certainley gave it their all, and were unlucky not to get another couple of goals. John Ahern struck over a fine point, and Alex Kinsella hit two fine scores. Sacred Heart scored a fifth goal midway through the second half to seal the win, as the full time whistle blew. No doubt this is a very good young Ferrybank side, and they will have learnt a lot from tonights game, and no doubt they will come back stronger for next season. Maybe it was the long wait for this game to be played that might have had an effect on their performance tonight, and the selectors couldnt have asked for anymore during the campagin. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. ROANMORE BLITZ: Ferrybank under 8 hurlers took part in the annual Roanmore Blitz on Saturday morning. TEAM: Jake Butler, Sean Heffernan, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Jamie Sutton, Kyle O' Brien, Izaak Richards, Eddie Daly, Ross burke-Derham, James Tyler, Ciaran Clark, Shane Oates, Samuel Lesack. Ferrybank played three hurling games against fierce opponents. Ferrybank soared ahead in the first game, but conceeded some goals, but as the game wore on, we settled into it and maintained our lead. In the 2nd game, Ferrybank didnt conceed any scores against Liam Mellows, and better still took our scores when it mattered. The final game against Dunhill proved a more daunting task, but the lads fought to the end. This was a great day for the under 8 team. The lads collected their medals with pride yesterday, heads held high, shoulders back, and on top of the world. Well done lads, and dont forget the majority of you, will be under age again for next season, so keep up the practice. Ferrybank can be proud of you.

Without a doubt these were the best two performances from Ferrybank have played to date. The under 7's stormed ahead, and never looked back. The under 5 match was a much tougher affair, but the sheer determination of Ferrybank paid of in the end. The sizeable crowd that gathered to watch these games today were delighted with this exceptional feast of hurling. Special thanks to all Parents and Relatives who got the the kids ready, and to the venue on time. The support was incredible, and the kids felt like superstars. We could not do this without their support. Thanks to Passage East who were excellent opponents, and to the teams for a great days entertainment. It was fantastic to see the support for the kids, and we look forward to visiting Passage for the return leg. We would welcome any assistance from Parents to help out with the kids. UNDER 21 HURLING: Our Under 21 hurlers were defeated by Eirns Own in Cleaboy this morning in the semi final replay of the under 21 hurling Eastern championship on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-4. This game never got going as a contest, as their was a lot of start stops throughout the sixty minutes. Eirns Own playing with a breeze got the first two points of the game, but after eight minutes Ferrybank were awarded a penelty after Greg Murphy was fouled in the square. Mark Russell stepped up and his penelty was well saved and out for a '65, which was converted by Damien Ahern. Another Eirns Own point extended their lead to 2 points before Cormac O' Driscoll reduced the deficit to a point. Eirns Own scored the next three points to increase their lead to four, but Eric Corcoran got a fine point to leave a goal between the sides with a few minutes to half time, and just on the stroke of the whistle another point from Eirns Own left a four point gap in -7pts to -3pts in their favour. With a breeze in their favour, Mark Russell scored a fourth point to leave three between them. Another Eirns own point extended their lead, but in the 42nd minutes, Sam Lawless got a goal for Ferrybank when he turned onto his left and his shot took a deflection which ended up in the net. With a point between them, Ferrybank had some good chances to kick on from their with Stephen O' Neill and Sam missing some good goal chances. Eirns Own wethered the storm and with 10 minutes left scored a crucial goal to extend their lead to four points, and late on tagged over two more points to open up a clear lead. Tried as the did, Ferrybank kept going to the end, but time ran out on them, and Eirns Own qualified for the final. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers were defeated by Tramore last Wednesday night on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-5. This was the teams final game in this years championship, with very little at stake. Losing Cormac Heffernan after a few minutes didnt help the team, as Tramore took their chances and ran out comfortable winners on the night. We wish Cormac and John Ahern speedy recoveries, as both of them picked up injuries on the night.

UNDER 14 CAMOIGE: Our under 14 Camoige side are in action next Saturday September 17th in the Tramore tournament starting at 11am. Ferrybank will play Tramore and Rocky Rovers from Cork. So please come along and support the girls on the day- the more players and supporters the better it is for all.

DEISE DRAW: Congratulations to Noirin O' Meara who won the confined draw for August for Ferrybank members. The September Deise Draw will take place on Friday 30th September in Brickeys Rangers Gaa grounds.

UNDER 8 HURLING: Our under 8 hurlers travelled to Kilsheelan yesterday for the Kilsheelan blitz. This was Ferrybank's first trip to Tipperary for the under 8's, and as a team they had a ball. Four teams played in the blitz today from different counties, with Ferrybank donning the Waterford colours. Ferrybank conceeded some early goals, but as the game wore on, they settled into the games and defended well. The lads put in a great effort, and improved after the experience of each game. Most importantly they enjoyed the outing,. Well done lads and dont forget the majority of you have another year of the under 8 age group. So keep up the practice. UNDER 16 CAMOIGE: Our under 16 Camoige side were defeated in the county final tonight at Walsh Park against De La Salle on a scoreline of 3-5 to -5pts. The scoreline doesnt do justice to the game as Ferrybank had some excellent goal scoring chances but lacked the killer touch where it mattered. De La Salle went into the game as clear favourites, but that didnt bother Ferrybank as they fought with immense pride for the fourty minutes. From the start, Ferrybank took the game to De La Salle and had some clear cut chances to score but didnt take them as their opponents goal lead a charmed life. De La Salle opened their account with a well taken point, and moments later they got their first goal when a long ball into the Ferrybank defence went all the way to the net. Two further points extended DLS lead, then Niamh Ahearne opened Ferrybanks account with a well taken 65. Just before half time DLS got their second goal to leave them leading 2-3 to -1pt. Following a half time pep talk the girls came out all guns blazing and totally dominated the opening exchanges. Points from Aisling O' Keeffe(2), and Niamh Ahearne(2) reduced the gap to four points. Ferrybank tried hard for the goal they badly needed but the ball just wouldnt go into the net DLS scored two points to extend their lead, and in the last few minutes scored a third goal to seal the win. The girls can hold their heads high following this game as they gave it their all, and with a bit of luck could and should have got a few goals,DLS took their chances, and that was the difference, and to be fair a nine point win flattered them. It would be unfair to single out praise for any individual players, as the whole team played for one another, and played their heart out on the night. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers travelled to Clashmore/Kinsealbeg last night to play the home side and were defeated on a scoreline 0f 2-15 to 3-7. Ferrybank didnt play well in the first half as the hosts to their scores and lead narrowly by -7 to 1-2, with Mark Russell goaling for the Villagers. Hoping that Ferrybank might come more into it didnt materialise as Clashmore kept taking their scores and despite goals from Eoin Falconer and Mark Russell, Clashmore always held a four/five point lead throughout the second half and ran out worthy winners in the end. COUNTY DUTY: Well done to Greg Kinsella who was on County duty with the Waterford under 16 hurling development squad last weekend in Tipperary. Greg turned in excellent displays during the drawn game against Limerick, and no doubt this is the start of an excellent career in a Waterford jersey.

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS: Our Intermediate Hurlers exited this years championship in Dunhill today on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-13 by Ballygunner. To be fair the better team won on the day, but Ferrybank turned in a disappointing performance and therefore the dream dies for another year. Cormac O' Driscoll opened the scoring in the first minute, with Ballygunner responding straight away. Further points from Eoin O' Neill and Sam Lawless extended Ferrybanks lead, but two points in a minute from Ballygunner levelled after 15 minnutes. 2 Cormac O' Driscoll scores put ferrybank ahead, but Ballygunner levelled for a third time, and they took the lead by a point. Cormac O' Driscoll levelled the game up with a well taken score. Just on the stroke of half time Ballygunner took the lead with a free to lead at -7pts to -6pts. Following a strong half time pep talk by the selectors, Cormac O' Driscoll levelled the game up, and hoping Ferrybank might kick on from here didnt materialise as Ballygunner always got the next score to keep their noses in front. A fine score from Phil Blake reduced the gap to one, but the next 9 minutes proved crucial in the game as Ballygunner scored two goals in that time to put daylight between the sides. Points from Sam Lawless, Cormac O' Driscoll, Phil Blake kept Ferrybank in touch but Ballygunner always held their lead, and the goal Ferrybank badly craved for didnt come. Eric Corcoran did score Ferrybanks goal in the final few minutes when he doubled on a long range free. But in the end time ran out for Ferrybank, and Ballygunner advanced to the semi final stages. To them we say well done and wish them well. Unfortunately for Ferrybank they couldnt have picked a worser day to have an off day, as they couldnt get going, but no doubt they will be back a much stronger team for next year, as this young side will have learned a lot from this years championship.Thanks to all who came along and supported the team throughout the year, it was very much appreciated. CONGRATULATIONS: To Mark O' Brien who was on the Waterford under 16 team that competed in the Moyne/Templederry tournament. Waterford were defeated in the final by Cork. Also well done to M.J Sutton, John Ahern, Robbie Carew who played for the Waterford under 15 hurlers at the weekend, and to David Atkins who played for Waterford under 14 Hurlers in the annual Sonny Walsh tournament. All five performed with credit, and hopefully this is the start of many days with Waterford hurling.

MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers will play Clashmore/Kinsealbeg this Wednesday night August 31st at 7pm in Clashmore. A bus will leave at 5:30pm from the pitch for anyone wishing to travel. The cost is £5 euro's. Please come along and give your support to the team on the night.

BEST OF LUCK: The very best of luck to M.J. Sutton, John Ahern, Robbie Carew, Mark O' Brien who will be representing Waterford in a number of tournament games this weekend. M.J. will be the Waterford under 15 hurling team in the Carrigdhoun Tournament which will take place in Riverstick tomorrow Saturday. There will be four games in place with Tipperary first up at 10:30am, Limerick at 11:20am, Clare at 12:15pm, Cork 2:45pm, with the final at 3;45pm.
John and Robbie will be with the B squad in the Clare tournament in Clarecastle this Saturday. First up is a game against Kerry at 12:30pm, followed up with a game with Tipperary at 2pm.
Mark will be with the Waterford under 16 A squad this Saturday in Moyne/ Templederry and will have games against Laois at 12:30pm, followed by Kilkenny at 2pm. No doubt these lads will give an excellent account of themselves, and we wish them the best of luck.

UNDER 6 & 8 HURLING: Our under 6 & 8 hurlers played Ballyragget in Ferrybank last night. Both underage teams played out of their skins today against fierce Kilkenny opponents Ballyragget. Both matches were very physical. Our under 6 dominated and edged ahead in the end. The under 8 game was a much tougher affair, but Ferrybank fought to the very end and never gave up. Well done lads, thanks for a great evening of hurling. The support from the crowd really spurned the kids on, and they thrived on it. As always thanks to the parents for their support as this is crucial. Thanks to Ballyragget who were excellent opponents, and showed great sportsmanship. We look forward to visiting Ballyragget for the return leg. With the new school year approaching, why not bring your child down to Ferrybank Gaa grounds, where the emphasis is placed on fun. It provides kids with the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy themselves, in a controlled and safe environment. We would welcome any assistance from parents, who would loke to get involved. This has been amended to reflect a change in the rules on foot of motions passed at congress 2008 and 2011. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers were defeated in their fifth game of this years championship by Eirns Own tonight in Ferrybank on a scoreline of 2-15 to 2-11. This result almost ends Ferrybanks hopes of reaching the knockouts stages. Eirns own were the better team if the first half, building up a useful five point lead, which was the key to their victory. Ferrybank found it hard to get going in the first half, as Eirns Own looked sharper and that was reflected in the first 15 mins where the visitors built up a -6pts to -1pt lead with Mark Russell opening Ferrybanks account from a free. Mark Russell and Damien Ahern got further scores for the home side but Eirns own were still tagging over the points, and five minutes before half time they got their first goal to leave them 1-9 to -4pts clear. A well taken score from Robbie Carew reduced the gap, and just before half time, Ferrybank got a lifeline, when Mark Russell blasted a "21" yard free to the Eirns Own net to reduce the gap to 1-11 to 1-6 at half time. Early in the second half diaster struck for Ferrybank when a long range free somehow ended up in the Ferrybank net to extend the visitors lead to 8pts. But credit to Ferrybank as they refused to throw in the towel, and points from Mark O' Brien and Mark Russell closed the gap, and moments later Cormac Heffernan struck a well taken goal from a tight angle to bring the game back to three points. Eirns own scored another point to extend their lead, but 2 points from Mark O' Brien reduced the gap back to a goal with a few minutes later, but Eirns Own scored a free, and despite a Damien Ahern point, Ferrybank couldnt get that all important goal they badly craved for, as Eirns Own held on for the two points. The second half was a much improved effort from the lads as they match Eirns Own in all areas of the field, but the damage was done in the first half. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. Next game is scheduled for Wednesday August 31st away to Clashmore/Kinsalebeg at 7:30pm. UNDER 8 FOOTBALL: Ferrybank under 8 Gaelic Football played in the Carraiganore blitz last Saturday. Ferrybank played 2 Football games against fierce opponents in Tramore & St Pats. Ferrybank conceeded some early scores, but as the game wore on the lads settled into it and defended well. With the combination of the regular team, plus the bonus of new players, Ferrybank proved themselves a force to be reckoned with. The lads with their kicking, and their sheer tenacity proved fatal for the opposition. Ferrybank should be proud of the performance our under 8 put into today. Special thanks to all the parents who got the kids ready for the day and to the venue on time. There support was incredible, and the kids felt like superstars. JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior Hurlers exited this years championship tonight when they were defeated by Clonea on a scoreline of 1-10 to -9pts in the semi final at Walsh Park. Despite missing 5 or 6 key players for this game, credit to the team as they fought to the very end against an experience Clonea side. It was Clonea who made the better start with a goal in the opening five minutes, and they had some good chances to extend their lead, which they didnt take. Ferrybank soon settled and Shane Flynn got them on the scoreboard with a well taken point, and moments later Shane got a second point to reduce the gap to one. D.J.Magee had a good chance of a goal, but his shot from close range went narrowly wide of the post. Ferrybank soon settled and got more into the game, as it wore on in the first half, and points were exchanged in that half, to leave the half time score 1-3 to -4pts in Clonea's favour. In the second half Marty Freeman reduced the gap with a well taken score, but hard as they tried Clonea always kept their noses in front by tagging over points. Shane Flynn kept Ferrybank in the hunt with well taken scores, as the game entered its closing stages. Looking for that vital goal, Ferrybank tried hard but the ball wouldnt break for them in around the goal area. Clonea got the last score to put them four points clear, as the final whistle blew. No doubt this was a brave effort from the lads, they never gave up and kept plugging away. Missing a few players was vital for this game, but credit to the team where its due as they kept going to the end. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers were edged out by the miminum of margains last night by Passage on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-13. This was a game that could have went either way, but in the end it was the visitors who took their chances when it mattered to claim the two points. There was very little between the two sides in the first half, with both sides trading good scores,with Mark O' Brien, Robbie Carew, Darren Hickey pointing well, and it was level at -7pts each at half time. Ferrybank made a good start to the second half with a point from Robbie Carew and a goal from Cormac Heffernan to put them four points clear, but Passage came back and scored four unanswered points to level it up. Points from Luke Flynn put Ferrybank 2 points clear, and Ferrybank missed a few good scoring chances to extend their lead, and moments later they were punished as a free in from the 21 was driven into the Ferrybank net, to put Passage a point clear. Eoin Falconer responeded with a well taken score to level things up, as points were traded by either side, but in the closing five minutes Passage scored two points to leave them clear. Luke Flynn replied with a point, to reduce the gap to one, but tried as they could, Ferrybank were unable to get the levelling point, as time went against them. This was a disappointing defeat, as they had some good chances to even win the game. With three remaining games to go, Ferrybank will need to win them all if they have any chance of making it to the knockout stages. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate hurlers played Carrick Swans last Wenesday night, and following a good game of hurling it was the visitors who emerged winners on a scoreline of -17pts to 1-10. Carrick Swans with a mix from their senior squad were the better team in the first half and lead by -7pts to -4pts with the Ferrybank defence playing very well, twarthing the dangerous attacks by the Swans. In the second half, Ferrybank came a lot more into the game, and competed well for long stages, and getting within a point of the Swans with a goal from Eoin O' Neill. But the visitors tagged on a couple of late scores to run out winners. Despite missing a couple of regulars, and losing two players through injuries in the first half, this was a good battling performance from the team, against a very experience team. Despite misssing a couple of players, Ferrybank found the going tough, espically in the first half, as a more sharper Kilmacow side led 1-8 to -5pts at the break. Points from Chris Hoban(2), Eoin O' Neill(2), Sam Lawless were Ferrybank scores, with Kilmacow goal coming midway through the first half. Ferrybank improved in the second half with their hurling, but each time their registered a score through Damien Walsh, Phil Blake, Eoin O' Neill and Brendan O' Meara,Kilmacow replied with one of their own. A second goal just before the finish, sealed the win for Kilmacow, with Eoin O' Neill replying with a good goal for the home side. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night. INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers played Kilshelian last Tuesday night in Ferrybank in a challenge game, and following a good game of hurling it was Ferrybank who emerged winners on a scoreline of 4-13 to 2-13. The first half performance from Ferrybank was excellent with some very good scores been taken, following some good passages of play. At half time Ferrybank led 4-7 to -5pts, with Sam Lawless in good scoring form at left half forward by knocking over 4pts from play, with Cormac O' Driscoll, Phil Blake, and Damien Walsh scoring the remaining points. Goals from Seamus Burchill(2), Eoin O' Neill, and Damien Walsh put the home side into a healthy half time lead. Ferrybank made some changes in the second half, as Kilshelian came more and more into the game by putting over some fine scores, and they got 2 goals in the space of six minutes to reduce the gap, as the home side took their foot of the pedal, however some fine points late on from Mark Russell, Cormac O' Meara(2), Eoin O' Neill(2), Sam Lawless making sure the home side ran out winners. This was a good performance from the team, particulary in the first half, with the defence giving very little away and setting up good attacks for the forwards to take their scores. Peadars Summer Camp

Last week we held a fantastic week of hurling, football and fun in the field. This year was the 20th anniversary of the camp and boy what a success it was.
Tony Browne, Declan Ryan, Jamie Nagle, Micheal Kavanagh, Paddy Buggy, and the president himself Christy Cooney.

HURLING ON THE GREENS: Tomorrow Wednesday July 27th. Hurling on the greens returns for 6-10 year olds from 11am to 12:30 in the following areas.
1. St Killans Place.
2. Leaca Ard.
This is an ideal way to try and get more kids playing hurling for Ferrybank around the area, and help in the great work the club are already doing. This would benefit the younger Ferrybank coaches who might be interested in some coaching. So please bring your kids along and enjoy the fun filled hurling.

BEST WISHES: Ferrybank GAA Club wishes Mark Russell the best of luck when he lines out for the Waterford under 17 Hurling development team when they play Kilkenny in Ferrybank at 3pm tomorrow Saturday 23rd July. This call up to the Waterford team has been no great surprise, as Mark has been in excellent form for Ferrybank Hurling at all levels this year. Also best of luck to Minor Stars Damien Ahern and Cormac Heffernan tomorrow night Saturday when the Waterford Minor team play Kilkenny in the All Ireland Quater final in Walsh park at 7pm.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers made their exit from this years championship where they were defeated by Roanmore in Gracedieu on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-4. This was a disapointing performance from the team, and espically not to make it to the semi finals. Missing a number of players from the last match, this was going to be a difficult game and so it did. Despite getting of to a good start with a goal from Cormac O' Driscoll and a Jason Hennessey point, Ferrybank soon lost control of the game despite playing with the wind in the first half, as Roanmore began to dominate and scored 1-4 without reply. There goal coming from poor Ferrybank defending. Ferrybank began to claw their way back into it and further points from John Treacy and Jason Hennessey (2) drew the game level. Playing against the breeze in the second half, Roanmore scored an early goal, when a high ball into the Ferrybank goal somehow ended up in the Ferrybank net. Another Roanmore point extended their lead to 4 points. Ferrybank began to get a grip of things and were very unlucky not to score a goal which they badly needed when Sam Lawless had 2 shots of the upwright and post, and Mark Russell hit the post with the goal at his mercy. A third goal from Roanmore sealed Ferrybanks fate late on, as the full time whistle blew. PEADERS SUMMER CAMP: Peaders Summer Camp which is celebrating its 20th year is well and truely up and running. With over 250 kids attending the summer camp, everyone is having a great time, and the weather is holding up. Special hurling stars Tony Browne and current Tipperary Hurling manager Declan Ryan have attended the summer camp, and this has gone down brillantly with the kids. More Hurling Stars are planned for Thursday and Friday. Also on Friday the President of the G.A.A. Christy Cooney will also make a special appearance around 10am to mark the 20th Anniversary of the summer camp. So to all parents who kids are attending the summer camp, please come along and meet the President, bring along your Neighbour(s), Friends, they are most welcome to meet the President and have your photo taken and enjoy the day. We look forward in welcoming you on Friday.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: CHANGE OF VENUE: The Junior Football match between Ferrybank and Roanmore will now take place in GRACEDIEU and NOT Cleaboy as previously stated. The match will throw in at 7:30pm on Thursday July 21st.

UNDER 21 HURLING: The under 21 hurling Semi Final between Ferrybank and Eirns Own will now take place on Saturday 30th July in Walsh Park at 7:30pm.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers maintained their hopes of qualifying for the semi finals of the Junior Football championship with a comfortable win over Eirns Own in Poleberry last night on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-4. Early points from John Treacy and Kevin Hurley put Ferrybank in control early on, and after 11 minutes Sam Lawless scored a fine goal following a good movement of play involving Colm Roche and Kevin Hurley. John Treacy extented the lead with a well taken point, and a second Ferrybank goal on 18 minutes from Mark Russell put Ferrybank further clear. Darragh Reynolds and John Treacy puts more points on the board to lead 2-5 to no score. Ferrybank were guilty of some poor misses in that first half despite playing with the wind. Eirns Own got their opening score just on the half time whistle to leave the game at 2-5 to -1pt. Eirns Own started the second half with purpose and put pressure on the defence but Ferrybank weathered the storm, and Damien Walsh pointed with a well taken score. Ferrybank then took control of the game and Jason Hennessey scored the third goal from close range, and Brian Bartley fininshed of the Ferrybank scoring with a good score. Eirns Own scored a late consolation goal, and the game peetered out to a tame finish. Overall this was a good win for Ferrybank, and we can look forward to our final game against Roanmore on Thursday 21st July in Roanmore at 7:30pm where a win will guarantee us a place in the semi finals. UNDER 15 HURLING: Our under 15 Hurlers maintained their unbeaten record in this years championship with a clearcut win over Sacred Heart in Ferrybank tonight on a scoreline of 5-17 to -9pts win. Ferrybank laid this win from the start scoring two early goals from John Ahern to have them leading 2-8 to -6pts at half time. 2 early second half goals fininshed the game as a contest, as the home side rattled of some fine scores leaving them easy winners in the end. This was another solid display from the team, with everyone contributing to the cause. Thanks to all who came along and supported the lads on the night. MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers were defeated by Abbeyside by -15pts to -10pts in their second game in the Minor Hurling championship last Monday night in Ferrybank. This was a vastly improved performance by the team from their opening game. Excellent work in the middle of the park from Mark O' Brien and Oisin MacCaothmaoil helped Ferrybank to win a lot of ball, but Abbeyside held the half time lead by -7pts to -5pts, with John Ahern scoring some excellent points. In the second half, Abbeyside took control and took with scores, however Ferrybank kept plugging away and worked their way back into the game, and the goal they badly needed didnt materialise as Abbeyside held on to claim the points. PEADERS SUMMER CAMP: This Friday nighT July 15th, a benefit night will take place in Flynns Bar around 9:30pm. Celebrating 20 years this year, the night is to alleviate costs and keep the entry fees at a miminum. Tickets are £3 euro's each, and there will be plenty and craic on offer. The summer camp will commence on Monday July 18th at 10am.

JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior Hurlers played Eirns Own in a challenge game in Ferrybank tonight, and following a good game of hurling the sides finished level at 3-11 each. Ferrybank held a slight 1-4 to -5pt lead at half time with Andrew Keogh scoring a great goal with a bullet of a shot which flew into the top corner of the net. Second half goals from Chris Hoban and James Murphy put Ferrybank in control, but Eirns own scored two quick goals to reduce the gap, and scored a third goal to give them the lead. It was left to Andrew Keogh to level the game with a well pointed free to draw the game. This was a good workout for the team. GOLF CLASSIC RESULTS:
Congratulations to Dick Dowling, Johnny Walsh, Billy O' Meara who were the winners of the Gerry Ryan memorial Golf classic with a total of 52 points. In the mixed Golfers section the winners were Andy Heffernan, Luke Flynn, Andrew Heffernan. In the Non-Golfers section the winners were Mick Coady, Gary Coady, Mark O' Brien. Longest Drive winner was Eamonn Griffin, and nearest to the pin winner was Alan Cunningham. Well done to all the winners and indeed all who took part in the Golf Classic.
