GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers travelled to Cork last Saturday to play Douglas in a challenge game and following a good game of hurling we were defeated by a mixture of their Intermediate and Seniors teams Despite having an understrength side, the lads worked hard throughout the game, and no doubt this experience will stand to them for future matches. We play Butlerstown on Thursday night away at 7:30pm in a challenge game.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Foootballers played St Pauls last Saturday in round five of this year's championship and following a hard fought game, we came out on top on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-8. Having led a half time by 1-5 to -4, thanks to a Eric Corcorcan goal, we came under pressure in the second half as St Pauls began to dominate, but two late goals from Kevin Roche got us out of jail, to give us a vital win. With four wins and a draw from five games, we have almost guaranteed qualification to the semi-finals. Our next game is against Fenor on Saturday 3rd July in Ferrybank at 7:30pm.

MINOR HURLING: Our Minor Hurlers match against Abbeyside away scheduled for tomorrow night Wednesday has been POSTPONED:

INTERMEDIATE HURLING FIXTURE: Our next match in this year's championship is against Mt Sion will now take place on TUESDAY JULY 13TH AT 7:30PM, IN WALSH PARK. Please keep this date in your diary and come out and support the lads.

MUNSTER FINAL TICKETS: Tickets for this munster final can be collected on Tuesday night 6th July from 6:30pm,in Ferrybank Gaa grounds.Ticket prices are covered stand £35 : uncovered £30 : Terrace £25 : Student £20 : Child with adult £5 . Would all concerned please note that the county board have issued each club with raffle tickets at £5 each. Basically if you have ordered a match ticket, you will be also issued with a raffle ticket which must be paid for as well. This is a county board fundraiser, it has NOTHING to do with FERRYBANK gaa club. Every match ticket Ferrybank have ordered, they will be given raffle tickets, and they cannot hand back any unsold raffle ticket, they will have to hand over the money. Each Gaa club in Waterford and county, will be handed these raffle tickets. 1st prize in the raffle is £2,000 euro's: 2nd prize is a trip for two on the munster final team bus to Thurles:
3rd prize is overnight accomodation and tickets for the All Ireland hurling final: 4th prize is overnight accomodation and tickets for the All Ireland Football final. We would urge all people, who have ordered tickets from Ferrybank GAA club to show understanding regarding these raffle tickets, and as i have already stated, it has nothing to do with Ferrybank Gaa club.

here shows who are the current players of the month for the club.

Under 14 hurling reoprt.

The under 14 hurlers won their replay in what was an excellent game of hurling.
At half time we led 2-6 to 1-2. after what can only be described as a fantastic start from our young hurlers.
The second half was a tense affair, with Clonea putting in a spirited display.
It was literally point for point until we came out as victors with a winning score of Ferrybank 3-9 to Clonea 3-7.
Well done to the players and indeed to managers Mick Sutton, Foxy Carew and Paul Sutton, who have put in a huge effort with this team.
Hard work does pay off.
WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers contuined their build up to the next championship game with a challenge game against De La Salle last Tuesday night and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-22 to 1-14. The key to this victory was the bright start made by the team, with a good work ethic resulting in some excellent scores during the first half, in we lead by 1-13 to -8pts. Shne Flynn getting the vital goal, with points contributed by Damien Walsh, Paul Martin, James Murphy, Brendan O' Meara. Rather than sitting on their laurels for the second half, the team contuined their good work rate and the points began to flow with Cormac O' Driscoll, Phil Blake excelling at midfield, with some excellent scores from a wide range of players. Under 14 hurling reoprt.

Our under 14 hurlers played Clonea the other night and drew the game, but what a game.
End to end stuff the entire game. We feel we left it behind us with our missed chances, but to be fair to Clonea they played well and battled hard.
This was a tough game but a game played in good spirit and was a credit to both sets of managers and coaches.
Final score was Ferrybank 2-9 Clonea 3-6.
The replay is Friday night 7.30. in Portlaw.

junior footabll

The footballers were out last against Roanmore, in Roanmores pitch and won.
In what can only be labeled an
experimental team, a mixture of the old and the new, we played some good football, against a stubborn Roanmore side.
The score of 2-13 to 0-5 points is a little
flattering in so far as the teams were not that far apart from each other, skill wise.
So we march on to the next game which we believe will be held within the next 2 weeks and hope for another victory.
Well done to the team which is
captained by non other than James Murphy.

GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers travelled to Kill last Friday night to play Dunhill in ther third game in this years Eastern championship and after putting up an excellent performance over the 60 minutes ,were very unfortunate to be defeated by 6 points on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-13. They say goals win matches and thats was the difference in the end. Despite missing a number of players, this didnt deter Ferrybank from putting in a much improved effort from there last game. Early scores from Cormac O' Driscoll got the Villagers of to a good start before Dunhill quickly replied with a goal from a "21" which could have been handled better. Points from Damien Walsh and Eoin O' Neill restored our advantage, before 3 unanswered points from Dunhill gave them a two point lead mid way through the first half. A second Dunhill goal followed from a deflected shot, put them four clear but points from Damien Heff, Cormac O' Driscoll, and Eoin O' Neill put us all square, and Shane Flynn was very unlucky when his shot cannoned of the crossbar, that would have given us a three point lead at half time, but instead it was all square at 2-5 to -11pts. Facing the breeze in the second half Damien Walsh restored the lead with a well taken score but Dunhill replied with a third goal and tagged on two points to go five points clear. Then Damien Heff lined up a "21" yard free, and facing six on the goal line rifled the ball to the net to reduce the gap to two points, but diaster struck immeadiately, when straight from the puck out Ferrybank failed to clear the ball, and ended up in the back of the net to give Dunhill breathing space. Refusing to throw in the towel, sub Greg Murphy picked up a loose ball in the Dunhill area and struck a great shot to the net to reduced the gap to a goal with minutes remaining, try as they might Ferrybank couldnt get that goal to draw level, and with the last puck of the game Dunhill scored a fifth goal which sealed our faith. Credit to the team for never giving up in the game and to be fair deserved something from this game. We are still in a good position to qualify for the knockouts, its in our own hands now with games against Mt Sion and Portlaw remaining, though it wont be easy, the lads are well capable of doing it, based on this performance. Many thanks to those who travelled and supported the team. TEAM: Sean Flynn, Pat O' Neill, Chris Hoban, Conor Hogan, Tommy Carew, Damien Walsh, Paul Martin, Shane Sullivan, Phil Blake, Eoin O' Neill, John Byrne, Damien Heffernan, Shane Flynn, Mark Drennan, Cormac O' Driscoll. SUBS Greg Murphy for Mark Drennan. SCORES Damien Heffernan 1-2, Cormac O' Driscoll, -6, Eoin O' Neill -3, Greg Murphy 1-0, Damien Walsh -2.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers will play game four in this years championship on Friday June 18th at 7:30pm away to Roanmore in CLEABOY. Victory will almost gaurantee us a play in the semi finals. This will be a tough test for the lads. Please come along and support the team.

REMAINING FIXTURES: INTERMEDIATE HURLING Friday 9th July Mt Sion Walsh park at 7:45pm. Friday July 23rd Portlaw Walsh Park at 6:30pm.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: SUNDAY JUNE 27th at home to St Pauls time to be confirmed: SATURDAY 3RD JULY HOME TO FENOR AT 7:30PM: SATURDAY 17TH JULY HOME TO KILMACTHOMAS AT 7:30PM.

DEISE DRAW: Tickets are still on sale from any committee member for the June draw which will take place on Friday 25th in Killrossanty. Many thanks to those who have purchased tickets so far, and hopefully we can keep up our strike rate by having another winner in this months draw.

under 14 hurling.

Today, in the field we played the last qualifier in the under 14 hurling, an we won. This was a hard fought battle as Stradbally were a very disciplined and skillful team. In the first half it was neck and neck, as both teames traded scores.
The second half started well for us as we got a fortunate goal to set us on our way to victory.
We wish Mick Sutton, Foxy Carew, and Paul Sutton all the best in their semi final. which we think is on next week.
Score Ferrybank 2. 10 Stradbally 9 points.

GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate hurlers will play Dunhill in there third game in this years Eastern Championship on Friday June 11th in Kill at 7:45pm. This will be another stern test for the team as they play one of the favourites in the competition. Following a below par performance from the team in there last game, the lads will be keen to put in a much improved performance. Please come along and support the lads.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Our Junior Footballers will play ther fourth game on Friday June 18th at 7:30pm where they play Roanmore in Gracedieu.

DEISE DRAW: Congratulations to Dick Arrigan of Rockenham who won 300 euro's in the May Deise Draw. June's draw takes place on Friday 25th in Killrossanty. Many thanks to all who have purchased tickets for this draw as this is a vital fundraiser for the club.

UNDER 9's TOURNAMENT: Ferrybank under 9's travelled to St Marys GAA grounds Ballydurn last Wednesday, while another group travelled to De La Salle to play in another tournament involving De La Salle, Roanmore, Ballygunner. TEAM: Aaron Ahearne, Kian Byrne, Luke Butler, Jack Haley, Gavin Fox, Daniel Golosujfy, Ben Fitzpatrick, Charlie Atkins, Adam Englisg, Nathan Carton, Ryan Tierney, Shane Forristal, Reece Phelan, John Collins, Charlie Mc Loughlin, David Olla, Paul Hondiau. The Feerybank squad in Ballydurn played the hosts Kilmacthomas, and Mt Sion and completed with great results from all three games. All the games were close affairs with great style and endeavour shown by this young side. The stand out players on the evening were to numerous to mention, and the collective effort in the heat of the evening helped to make it a competive evening, with good sportsmanship shown at all times. It was fantastic to see the parents support, in getting the children to the venue and sharing transport. Our mascot on the night was Aoife Byrne. This new generation of Ferrybank players are following in the tradition of the club and Peadar Ahearne at this age category, will supply some very skillful players for the Black and Amber / Deise if they contuine to apply themselves to there hurling homework but the foundations will only be laid with practice. Special thanks to all the parents who got the kids to both venues as we could not do this without there help. Coaches on the day were John Haley, John Brophy, Fintan Byrne, Conor Ahearne, Dave Butler. Our new training times for the under 8/9 are Wednesday night 6pm to 7pm. and Saturday 11.15- 12:15. It costs 2 euro's for both sessions with qualified coaches, if you want to see your son get involved in team sport and meet new friends, now is the time to do so. Please go to the web site ferrybankgaa.com for further details. Any parents looking to get involved please contact John Burns 0878717039, or Fintan Byrne 0872364576 for further information.

The John Collins Memorial Tournment.

On Wednesday next the annual John Collins Tournament goes into its final stages.
This tournament started in the boys school 2 weeks ago, and with the great help of all the teachers there, and Paul Martin it has once again proved to be a huge success for the children.
John Collins came to settle in Ferrybank in the 60s, and got involved in our club almost immediately, much to the benefit of our club.
For over 30 years John was an active member of the club, in various guises John was a selector, fundraiser, recruitment officer,[well before this title was invented] an all round club stalwart, and a decent man on top of that.
Come down to the field on Wednesday and soak up the carnival atmosphere, and witness first hand the great work being done at under age level within our club.
